The YP K3’s review -- 5 things I don't like at it

Whether it is a glossy-itsy-bitsy player, there are some options I am little bit disappointed not to see in this player. Maybe the designers just removed all the features to make it slimmer and with more perfect form, but this is not an excuse for it for not having a Bluetooth port. It is sometimes just annoying to carry wherever you go the cable after you and if you change computers often, then you must install the cd software without which the Samsung YP K3 is a useless piece of shinny glass and metal. Below I’ll make a list of what I dislike in this player and what annoys me at it, after being a one month happy customer:
  1. As I already said – to me, it lacks a lot the Bluetooth port, with which I could connect almost to any other portable media device or computer and send or receive music and pictures. Without it, my Samsung player works only when I switch on my personal computer and only if I have the cable
  2. The pictures are automatically resized to tiny images, of low quality. No matter you have a lot of free space on the player, it just compresses and resizes them to small and pixelated pictures, which lack a lot of details.

  3. If you connect it to a computer, it automatically is blocked and whether it recharges the battery or exchanges files with the computer, you can do nothing with it. So, during those hours of charging you are deprived of your music
  4. It doesn’t support any video format, so you can’t store in it videos. I admit this is a feature I shouldn’t ask from an mp3 player, as from the start I agreed to buy an mp3 player, not a movie viewer, so I’m ok with that, while I still feel that the engineers had place for this feature in it.
  5. I didn’t yet understood how the text function works and what is it good for, though I searched a lot on instruction and user’s manual, but nothing’s stated about it.
Anyway, I still love this player, and it is just right now in front of me and I know I enjoy every minute of it. Never mind it hasn’t Bluetooth, in fact, I bought an mp3 player, not a brick-gadget do carry with me, so I’m still happy with this Samsung yp k3 player. YeeP, and I’m recommending it ;)

A few photos made with my Samsung mp3 player (YP K3)

So, to prove you how great is it to have this “slice of digital delice” as they say at Samsung, I took my camera and made some photos with the player I’m talking on this blog. Hope they’ll help others in better understanding how it looks and how it feels.

And, by the way about how it feels: it is just a great sensation to have it in your hand. Despite you almost constantly think of how to keep it not to break something, it has a robust design and great look. I guess you already understood it is sensors-touch, so no buttons and the black color gives it a special enigmatic mood.

I saw it is available in other colors also, but, sincerely, I think black is most suitable, as it inspires so much mystery and glamour :). Another thing I like about it are the buttons, smooth and blue, with a blurred contour and easy to touch. Oh, I’m in love with it!

In the photo above you can see it how it looks from the front. If the display is off you don’t say it has a display and sensor buttons somewhere. It is just a piece of metallic shiny gadget that is very attractive.
Click on the image on the left to enlarge it and view more of the details in the picture.

From the right side it hasn’t nothing but just the metallic border that glows and is smooth, giving the sensation of something solid and durable. The contrast between black and silver is glossy and is commonly used by all manufacturers when they want to show sobriety and originality at the same time.

Here’s a photo from the left side of the player, where the power button is located. The button has 2 functions: if pushed down for 2 seconds – then it shuts down or restarts the player, if clicked upwards, then it locks the sensor buttons.
I find this function pretty useful, as I carry it in a special soft bag and it may sometimes recognize the touch and think it is my finger and so – change the track. So it’s better to lock the keys while you know you’ll just listen and nothing else for a few time.

Unfortunately, for this bottom photo, my camera focused on my hand despite on the player, but, anyway, you can clearly see the slots the player has: the headsets slot (standard) and the pc slot. The connection to the pc is made through an USB cable – through the connection you not only add music to it, but also charge it. So, this slot has double function. Also, not in this picture, but there’s a reset button on the back which is used to reset the player when the battery is down or it glitches (happened twice to me in 2 months, from unknown reasons).

I guess these photos helped you make a general impression on the Samsung’s YP K3 player. It looks great, great design and for its price I find it very good and satisfied with it and happy I made this decision.

Why did I bought a Samsung YP K3 mp3 player?

So, here’s my story. I wanted so hardly to have an mp3 player, I was ready to work for it hardly, just to have it. And so, after a few weeks of earning and collecting all my economies I decided it’s time to make myself a cute present and buy an mp3 player I was dreaming at day and night.
So, I checked out a lot of stores in my city and stopped at 3 items for which I was ready to give my money. They was:
1. The Samsung mp3 player this blog is about
2. An Apacer mp4 player
3. Another Chinese strange and weird made of cheap plastic mp4 player
So, the Apacer could gain the battle for the money from my pocket, a friend of mine has a similar one and seems to be happy with it. And at the same money I paid for my 2Gb Samsung K3, he has 4Gb of memory, a more large screen, a movie player and a little more features; also 2 slots for headsets, so you can listen the music and watch music the same time with someone else. This is pretty cool, and it seemed it is a good product for its price, but, it couldn’t be compared with the glamour and style of the Samsung mp3 player.
Despite it has less functions and is not as tricky and full of options, it offers the basic – the player, and this was what I searched for.
The third mp4 player (the Chinese one), without a brand name even, and very strange menu and, the sensation of the-button-will-just-gonna-fall was out of race. It had an impressive display large, but yet dark and a cheapy design so it wasn’t in my taste.
And after the salesman showed me how the YP K3 works and I felt its smoothness and the easy to follow menu I knew it was mine.
I paid for it almost 80$, later discovered on the net it is in half cheaper, but even at this money I’m very glad for it and really proud to have it.
It has great sound quality and great display brightness and I just love it!
Of course, after a few months of using it I have some cons and things I dislike, but this will be another post, quite soon! :)
